The Mount St. Joseph Baseball team opened up their spring trip to the Russmatt Baseball tournament with a 7-inning split with the Ohio Northern Polar Bears.

Auburndale, Florida – Through great pitching and a three-run blast from  propelled the Lions to a 5-3 game one victory. In game two on the afternoon, the Polar Bears showed excellent pitching in defeating the Lions.
 
GAME ONE:  Ó£ÌÒɬ¸£Àû¼§ 5 - Ohio Northern 3
 
The Lions opened their tournament play by handing the ball to Senior Aiden Post who would make his second start on the mound this season. The lefty would dice up the Polar Bear batters by tossing 4 shutout innings only allowing 2 hits and striking out a pair of batters. With the win, Aiden would earn his first victory on the young season.

In the third inning, the Lions would tac on their first run of the game with a  2 out triple to deep center field to score  from first base. In the third the Lions would not slow down as  reached first and  would apply pressure on the base paths bunting for a single. Once again with two outs and two men on,  would crush a ball deep to RF for a three-run Homerun to put the Lions up 4-0.

In the 5th inning the Lions would build on their lead with another insurance run. Mere once again started off the inning with a productive at bat drawing a walk.  After a sac bunt and an error, Mere would find himself on third base and then would be brought home on back-to-back hit by pitches for a 5-0 lead.

After the Polar Bears posed a threat in the bottom half of the 5th inning scoring three runs, the back end of the bullpen would shut the game down for the Lions. Junior  would enter in the bottom of the 6th with the bases loaded and shut the door on a potential comeback. In the 7th and final inning  would move from third base onto the Mound and complete his second save of the season.

UP NEXT: The Lions will be back in action on Monday as they play their second game in the Russmatt Baseball tournament against Central College. First Pitch is scheduled for 4:45PM
