Meyer is the Mount’s Assistant Director of Service Learning and Engagement. She oversees the Mount’s service learning program, which provides an opportunity for students to earn academic credit for meaningful volunteer work in the community.
Her commitment to service learning began before her freshman year of college when she served as a corps member with AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC). After earning a bachelor's degree in political science from Kent State University, she spent a summer in Alaska with the Student Conservation Association, working on trail construction and invasive species removal near Anchorage and in Denali National Park. Meyer then spent a year as a construction crew leader with Habitat for Humanity of Washington, D.C., before returning to AmeriCorps NCCC as a team leader. During this time, she collaborated with 17 nonprofits across eight states.
“After serving nationally and working with nonprofits across the country, returning to Cincinnati to support local organizations felt like a natural transition. I’m passionate about empowering college students as they give back, discover more about themselves, and develop a deeper understanding of their education,” said Meyer.
Since Caroline started in 2022, Mount service learning students have contributed over $250,000 of in-kind service to Greater Cincinnati through our service learning program, for a total of nearly $2 million over the program’s 30-year history.
“Caroline Meyer has been a vital part of our organization, dedicating her time and energy to our service learning program. Through her unwavering commitment, Caroline has positively impacted countless lives, demonstrating the true spirit of volunteerism,” said President H. James Williams, Ph.D. “Receiving the President’s Volunteer Service Lifetime Achievement Award is a testament to Caroline’s hard work, dedication and passion for helping others.”
Meyer also collaborates with faculty members who are embedding service learning projects into their classes, such as our brand identity class which provides pro bono graphic design services to a local nonprofit organization. She also organizes our annual Welcome Week Service Day each fall; this year’s event included 70 Mount Community members volunteering at five service sites.
The PVSA highlights the vital role of volunteers in addressing critical needs within our communities and encourages others to take action. Meyer’s exemplary service sets a powerful example for all, inspiring others to engage in volunteerism and make a difference.
Meyer was presented her award package by Provost Steve Almquist and Vice Provost Christa Currie at an award celebration at the Mount on January 29.
