"The small community of the Mount makes me feel so supported and like I belong here."

What is your year and major?
I am currently a Junior. My major is Speech Language and Hearing Sciences, I'm on track for the 3+2 Graduate Speech Pathology Program.
What is your anticipated graduation year?
I anticipate graduating in May 2026 with my bachelor's degree, and then again in 2027 with my Masters.
Why did you choose the Mount?
There are several reasons as to why I chose the Mount to continue my education. The biggest reason being the small community. The small community of the Mount makes me feel so supported and like I belong here. I have found my niche here at the Mount. I have joined so many clubs, organizations, groups, and have made so many life-long friends. Being at the Mount has helped me grow academically, socially, and professionally. I love being able to walk pretty much anywhere on campus and see somebody I know and get a smile and a wave. College can be difficult, but the Mount has tremendous faculty and staff, who only want to see me do well and succeed. The list can go on and on for why I chose the Mount, but these reasons are most important to me!
Are you involved in any student organizations or extracurriculars? If so, how have these supported your academic success?
I am a Mission Ambassador, a Campus Ambassador, I was the previous Office of Admission Co-Op 2023-2024, I attend Bible Study and Student-Led revivals on Campus. Being involved in these organizations have helped me come out of my shell, become more social, and most importantly, I have learned so many new things. Being a part of Mission Ambassadors has helped me lead and grow in my faith. As well, it gives me the opportunity to serve and show compassion to others within my community. Mission Ambassadors gives me the opportunity to volunteer and be a service to others in all different types of organizations across the Cincinnati area.
How do you manage your course load along with other obligations?
What works best for me is getting as much homework, assignments, and studying done during the day, in between classes, or before or after classes. Doing that and getting stuff done little by little is something that tremendously helps me. Working and having other obligations to attend to can take large amount of time out of my day. So, making sure I have things done before hand, helps me stay stress free, and able to enjoy obligations outside of school!
Are there any staff or professors you would like to credit who helped accommodate your experience?
Someone that I would like to give credit too thus far in my educational career would be Travis Callahan. Travis was my boss when I worked as Co-Op in the Office of Admission. He was very supportive and helped me get career and educational experience while working as a Co-Op. Travis is also a youth pastor, where when working for him, it allowed me to grow more in my faith as he was someone, I felt comfortable going to whenever I needed prayer or positive advice.
Describe one of your favorite memories at the Mount so far.
One of my favorite memories so far while being at the Mount, was the opportunity I had as a sophomore to go to The Vincentian Family Gathering in Chicago with fellow Mission Ambassadors. Not only did I get the experience of traveling to a new place, but also all the amazing things I learned while being at the conference and being able to connect and grow closer with other Mission Ambassadors.
What advice would you give to someone looking to join the Mount community?
My advice to someone who is interested in joining the Mount community is to not be afraid of putting yourself out there! The best way to gain experience, make friends, join clubs, is to simply show up and go to events! That way you can figure out what things you like and what you don't like. And along the way you will make friends and learn about new opportunities from them. It is so important to make friends and find other students to hangout/ do things with. It is so much better going to social events with friends or people you know, and it will make your experience less stressful!
What was your experience like connecting with students on campus?
My experience of connecting with other students on campus went very well. It definitely helps when you go to events and make friends who have similar hobbies, and interests as you! As well, making friends in your classes and your major. Having them in your class or major will make it easier to connect with them in the classroom, or even outside the classroom.
Can you describe your experience with the scholarships and applying for them?
Applying for scholarships was very simple. The Mount offers several scholarships for current students and future students to apply for. The instructions are always very clear on what you need/have to do in order to apply. I had a great experience when apply for scholarships, some do take more time/effort, but overall, a very smooth and simple process. My advice to future or current students is to make sure to take the time and apply for all the scholarships the Mount has to offer, in the long run they will only help you, and the joy you find when getting approved for a scholarship is unmatched, and you will then know all your hard work paid off!
Can you share more about your experience with making the Mount education affordable?
The faculty and staff in Financial Aid do a wonderful job at making the finance portion of college be less stressful. They offer amazing resources and support to help you continue your education at the Mount.
